Brief History and Aim

The Fund which was established in 1955 provides maintenance grants to students who are in financial need as assessed under a means test and are pursuing full-time courses at one of the following institutions :

  1. Secondary 4-7 courses of the secondary day schools approved by the Education Bureau;

  2. Certain courses of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. Please refer to the Guidance Notes on Applications for the eligible courses and course codes.


    3. (i) Post secondary 3 courses : Certificate in Vocational Studies or Diploma in Vocational Studies.
    (ii) Post secondary 5 courses : Foundation Diploma or Diploma in Vocational Studies Intensive Course.

Eligibility Criteria

Full-time students who are in financial need and are studying at the above schools/colleges may apply.

Value of Awards

The value award depends on the amount of funds available and the number of eligible applicants in the year of application. The value of awards in 2007/2008 are $2,224 for S4 and S5 students, $2,972 for S6 and S7 students and $3,594 for students of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education.

Method of Application

During the application period, students may obtain the forms from the Grantham Scholarships Fund Committee, 34/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wanchai, Hong Kong or download the forms (in PDF) from this website. Completed forms should be returned through the Head of school / Department to the same office.

Application Period

Normally from July to September

(Note: All information here is for reference only. Details will be announced when the Maintenance Grants are open for applications.)

Payment Arrangement

The maintenance grants will be paid after the Grantham Scholarships Fund Committee has decided on the allocation of the grants. This will be remitted by direct transfer of the approved maintenance grants to school's account through the bank and the schools are then requested to disburse the grants to the successful candidates.
