Brief History and Aim

Since 1970, the Singapore Government has been awarding scholarships to Hong Kong students as a gesture of good will. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to study in selected schools in Singapore at the start of the school term in January 2010.

Eligibility Criteria

Students must be Hong Kong permanent residents and have good academic track record.

aPrimary Special/Merit Awards:Primary 1 to Primary 5 students aged between 7 and 12 at the time of admission to Primary 2 to Primary 5
bSecondary 1 Scholarships:Primary 6/Secondary 1 students aged between 12 and 14 at the time of admission to Secondary 1
cSecondary 2 Scholarships:Secondary 1/Secondary 2 students aged between 13 and 15 at the time of admission to Secondary 2
dSecondary 3 Scholarships:Secondary 2/Secondary 3 students aged between 14 and 16 at the time of admission to Secondary 3
ePre-university Scholarships:Secondary 5 students aged between 16 and 18 at the time of admission to Pre-university 1

Terms of Awards

Primary School Special/Merit Awards
* A Special Award of S$2,000 per annum or a Merit Award of S$1,000 per annum
* Exemption of school fees (excluding miscellaneous fees)
* There is no bond attached to the Award
* One-month English Language Immersion Course conducted at the Singapore International School in HK
* The awards are tenable up to Primary 6, subject to satisfactory progress and conduct.  At the end of Primary 6, award recipients will sit for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)

Secondary and Pre-University Scholarships
* Secondary: Allowance of S$2,200 per annum with hostel accommodation; Pre-University: Allowance of S$2,400 per annum with hostel accommodation
* Exemption of school fees (excluding miscellaneous fees)
* A settling-in allowance of S400 (Secondary) / S500 (Pre-University) (once only)
* Subsidised medical benefits
* Payment of GCE 'O' and/or GCE 'A' Level (or equivalent) Examination fees (once only)
* One way economy air passage to and from Hong Kong at the start and end of the scholarships term
* Successful applicants will not be required to enter into any agreement to serve the Singapore Government
* The scholarships are tenable up to Pre-University 2, subject to satisfactory progress and conduct.  At the end of Pre-University 2, Scholars will sit for the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination (or equivalent)

Method of Application

Application forms are obtainable from the Hong Kong Scholarships website (http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/scholarships/hong-kong/). Interested students can also request for an application form from the Singapore International School in Hong Kong (23 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong). Each applicant should submit only ONE application form. Students who have applied for Singapore Scholarships for Hong Kong Students in previous years or are already studying in Singapore will not be considered.

Application Period

Commencement date : 8 May 2009
Closing date : 22 June 2009
Selection test date : August / September 2009
Selection interview date : August / September 2009

The selection test and selection interview for the scholarships will be held in Singapore, all travel-related expenses in connection to the selection test and interview will be borne by candidates.
