Aim

The scheme offers prizes to encourage senior secondary students in government, aided, direct subsidy scheme, per caput grant, private and English Schools Foundation schools in Hong Kong in attaining a high standard of learning and developing leadership abilities.

Number of Awards

The prizes will be awarded on a school basis. Each school will be given one prize for each of the following categories provided that the nominees meet the Council's selection criteria :

  1. Secondary 5 (Grade 11); and
  2. Secondary 6 or 7 (Grade 12 or 13).

Value of Awards

The value of each prize for the 2008/2009 academic year is $1,000.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates for the prizes should -

  1. possess Hong Kong Identity Cards;
  2. have resided in Hong Kong for at least three years;
  3. be full-time students at any government, aided, direct subsidy scheme, per caput grant, private or English Schools Foundation schools; and
  4. be recommended by school principals.

Nomination Procedures

School principals will normally be invited in September each year to nominate two students of the current academic year, one from Secondary 5 (Grade 11) and the other from Secondary 6 or 7 (Grade 12 or 13), for the prizes.

Announcement of Results

School principals will be informed of the results around the following January/February.

Payment Arrangement

Prize money will be paid after the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council has decided on the awards. This will be remitted to schools which will be requested to make disbursement to the successful candidates.

Presentation of Awards

A certificate will be awarded to each prize winner at an Awards Presentation Ceremony scheduled for March/April.
