Aim

This fellowship scheme aims at encouraging and assisting full-time students pursuing postgraduate studies by research.

Value of Awards

For the 2008 / 2009 academic year, each recipient will receive a one-off grant of $30,000. Successful candidates will not be required to relinquish scholarships, fellowships or bursaries held concurrently and neither will the value of the fellowship be reduced in such circumstances.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should -

  1. have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong or are permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction;
  2. have resided in Hong Kong for at least three years;
  3. be registered full-time research students undertaking UGC-funded / publicly-funded courses at one of the institutions listed below -
    i.  City University of Hong Kong;
    ii.  Hong Kong Baptist University;
    iii.  Lingnan University;
    iv.  The Chinese University of Hong Kong;
    v.  The Hong Kong Polytechnic University;
    vi.  The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; and
    vii.  The University of Hong Kong.
  4. be registered for a master degree or a doctorate degree on/after specified dates;
  5. be nominated by the heads of institutions; and
  6. not be in full-time employment.

Nomination Procedure

Heads of institutions will be invited to make nominations in September each year. Candidates will be invited for interview normally in November / December. Candidates who have not heard from the Council by the end of December should consider themselves not being selected.

Announcement of Results

The results of the awards will be announced around January / February. Nominating institutions will be notified of the results.

Payment Arrangement

Fellowship monies will be remitted to institutions, which will be requested to make disbursement to the award recipients.

Presentation of Awards

Certificates will be presented to the award recipients at an Awards Presentation Ceremony scheduled for March / April.
